What comes with the fare

The fare is built around the reef itself. A fast vessel takes you out to one of two reef sites, and the trip includes the visit to the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef system, not just the ride there and back. Quality snorkelling equipment is issued before you get in the water, fitted and checked rather than handed over in a bag for you to sort out yourself.

A snorkel guide is part of the fare too, and gets in the water with the group for the full one and a half hours of guided snorkelling rather than staying on deck. That is someone nearby who knows the site, not just a ladder to climb back up and a time to be back by. Flotation devices are provided as well, for anyone who wants extra support without needing to say why.

Snacks are served on board, as part of the fare rather than something to arrange yourself before you leave the hotel. Across a four hour half-day trip, the practical side, the gear, the guide and the food, is largely sorted before you even board, which leaves the water itself as the main thing left to think about.

Free GoPro photos, not sold afterward

On many snorkelling trips out of Cairns, photographs from the day are treated as an extra: a set is offered once everyone is back on the boat, and buying them becomes a separate decision at the end of an already long morning or afternoon. On this tour, the GoPro photos are simply part of what you booked, with nothing extra to weigh up once the boat turns back toward the marina.

That is one decision fewer to make on the way home. The photos cover the same one and a half hours of guided snorkelling as everyone else on board, and they come with the fare rather than being added on afterward. It is an unusual inclusion for this kind of trip, since a paid photo package is closer to the industry norm than a free one.

Stinger suits, and what they're for

Marine stingers are a genuine seasonal hazard on this stretch of the Queensland coast, usually present roughly from November to May. A stinger suit is provided whenever the season calls for it, worn over your swimwear for the time you are in the water, and it is included in the fare rather than something to hire or bring yourself.

That window overlaps with the wetter part of the Cairns year, which runs roughly November to April before a drier, milder season from May to October. Outside the stinger season the hazard is much reduced, but the suit is provided automatically whenever it applies, so there is nothing to request or remember in advance.

Either way, it is one less item on your own packing list. You do not need to check the calendar yourself or ask whether a suit will be available. It is part of the standard inclusion whenever marine stingers are a live consideration on the day you travel.

Hiring a wetsuit or a prescription mask

A wetsuit is not part of the standard inclusion on this tour. One can be hired instead if you would like extra warmth in the water, on top of what the stinger suit gives you, rather than relying on your own swimwear for the full session.

A prescription mask can also be hired, which is worth knowing if you wear glasses and would otherwise be swimming without them. Being able to see the reef clearly, rather than as a blur a few feet from your mask, changes the day for anyone who normally needs correction to see anything at a distance. Ask about it when you book, or when you check in, rather than discovering the option once you are already on the boat.

Neither the wetsuit nor the mask is arranged automatically with your booking. If you think you will want one, it is worth raising it in advance rather than assuming it will be waiting for you at the marina on the day.

Drinks, and what's not included at all

Drinks are not part of the fare. They are available to buy on board, on top of the snacks that are included, so you are not limited to whatever water you brought with you from the hotel.

Hotel transfers are not included on this tour at all, in either direction. Getting yourself to Cairns Marlin Marina, and back again afterward, is arranged by you rather than by Reef Adventures, which is worth knowing before the morning of the trip rather than on it.

Gear you don't need to bring

Because the snorkelling equipment, the guide, the flotation devices and the stinger suits are all provided, your own list is short: a hat, swimwear, a towel, sunscreen and water. Everything that actually gets you in the water and keeps you there safely is already sorted.

A reef-safe sunscreen is worth packing if you have one. That is general good practice around any reef, not something Reef Adventures asks for specifically, and it does not change anything else on the list above. The rest, the equipment, the guide, the suit in season, the snacks and the photos, is already covered by the fare.
